Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has been awarded a $112,500 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program to provide critical support to students wishing to return to TAMIU to complete their degree.

Scheiby González Fisher, TAMIU executive director of Outreach and Pre-College Programs, said the new program hopes to get students back on track to graduate with a degree enabling them to return to and succeed in the workforce.

“This program targets both displaced Texas workers who need to reskill or upskill to move quickly back into the workforce and students who have previously stopped out of higher education institutions without completing a postsecondary credential ( Bachelor’s degree).

“Students must not have enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution in the previous academic semester and must be within 12 months of completing their degree.  We know there are a number of former TAMIU students that could be helped by this new program, and we’re encouraging them to explore this with us,” González Fisher said.

Students can receive a scholarship to help pay tuition and fees between $500 and $2,500 per semester/term. TAMIU’s Spring classes begin Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. She provided the program’s criteria for consideration.

“In order to be considered, returning TAMIU students must be: Texas Residents, eligible for In-State Tuition, have filed a FAFSA application, have financial need, affirm they were affected by COVID-19 and enroll in at least 6 credit hours,” González Fisher noted.
