Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students and alumni are gearing up for Spirit Week 2021, a series of virtual and in-person events celebrating student life and school pride, happening Monday-Saturday Feb. 22 – 27.

Most Spirit Week events are free and open to the students, faculty, staff members and University alumni. To participate in the virtual events, TAMIU students should visit Trailblazers at https://tamiu.campuslabs.com/engage/. Athletic events also will be livestreamed at https://lonestarconferencenetwork.com/

While the week-long celebration has been modified to follow social distancing guidelines, the University community will still have an opportunity to participate in a series of new, creative activities that celebrate being a Dustdevil, including a car parade, virtual trivia nights, gaming streams and a drive-in movie screening.

Prior to Spirit Week, the University commemorated the start of the Spring 2021 semester with a virtual Welcome Back Week. These virtual offerings help maintain campus traditions and serve as opportunities to connect with our University community, noted Dr. Nicholas Hudson, director of the Office of Student Orientation Leadership and Engagement.

“Part of the collegiate experience are the co-curricular and community building activities that take place throughout a student’s time at TAMIU. Knowing that these experiences are often what students look back on, we want to ensure that students have as similar and memorable of an experience as possible while maintaining their safety. We have ensured that all appropriate safety protocols have been implemented at our in-person events, such as limiting the number of attendees at any one time and extending the length of events to accommodate smaller group sizes,” explained Hudson.

Hudson added, “Additionally, most of our events are online, where we continue to see a strong student turnout. Students are appreciative of the opportunities provided and are turning out in great numbers. They enjoy the wide variety of activities we are now able to create, especially our live-streamed events.”

Activities are organized by the University’s Athletics Department, Campus Activities Board (CAB), the Student Government Association (SGA), the Office of Alumni Relations and Rec. Sports.

Additionally, the University will coronate its first-ever TAMIU Royals. Formally known as Mr. and Ms. TAMIU, the TAMIU Royals represent the student body and uphold the University’s campus traditions and student life. Voting occurs online via Trailblazers, beginning Monday, Feb. 22 – 26 with a coronation on Saturday, Feb. 27 after the Men’s Basketball game.
