Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is assisting students who lack home computer access through a no-cost, laptop loaner program.

For the second year, loaner laptops will be available for students through the Fall 2021 semester that begins Monday, Aug. 23. Online applications can be accessed by visiting go.tamiu.edu/laptop.

To date, over 450 students have keyed into TAMIU’s Laptop Loaner program, ensuring their access to technology.

Through the program, students can access a Dell Latitude 3410 laptop with 14” display, camera and microphone.  It’s pre-loaded with software suitable for TAMIU classes through online and cloud connectivity.

Available on a semester-long basis, they are subject to status checks. The initiative is funded by the TAMIU CARES program. For this coming Fall semester, distribution began Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Students must be cleared of any financial aid holds to receive their laptop and should note that a hold will remain on their student account until the laptop is returned.

To qualify, TAMIU applicants complete a simple online questionnaire, contract and acknowledgement. They need to be current TAMIU students, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours, and be fully paid for the semester of enrollment to be eligible.

Laptops are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.  Contact the Office of Outreach and Pre-College Programs at 956.326.2720, email outreach@tamiu.edu , or visit offices in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 138.

TAMIU’s Fall semester 2021 begins Monday, Aug. 23.  The TAMIU Fall plan is focused on a return to a full and vibrant on-campus experience for all students, faculty, and staff at its 300-acre northeast Laredo campus.  Late registration ends Friday, Aug. 27. For detailed registration information, visit go.tamiu.edu/registration21
