Fall 2021 students at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) who meet selection criteria can still benefit from the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) appropriations, formerly known as the CARES grant.

TAMIU CARES applications for TAMIU students enrolled for the Fall 2021 semester opened Aug. 9, and close Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.

To date, TAMIU CARES has provided TAMIU student support in excess of $9 million. Fall TAMIU CARES funding is projected to be $7 million-plus.

Eligible undergraduate and graduate students can access the application by visiting www.tamiu.edu/cares.  Late submissions or re-submissions are not permitted.

HEERF student emergency aid grants are used to address any component of the cost of attendance or for emergency costs arising from the Pandemic, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental healthcare), and child care.  Eligible students may apply once during each long semester they are enrolled. When applying, students are required to attest to their eligible, Pandemic-related needs.

Students may elect to use the funding to pay off any outstanding balances owed to the University, and the remaining grant monies will be sent to the student’s BankMobile account. Students should visit the Card Services webpage at www.tamiu.edu/onecard  to confirm their disbursement preferences are current. Students submitting their applications are advised to retain the confirmation number available after submitting the application.

The TAMIU CARES application process can take four to five weeks for review. Disbursements are projected to start after Monday, Sept. 27, 2021.

Questions can be directed to cares@tamiu.edu. Due to the significant volume of emails, students may experience a delay in response.

Additional information, including an application FAQ, is available at https://www.tamiu.edu/cares/. An informative video is also viewable at https://go.tamiu.edu/application-faq.

The University also recently announced its Fall TAMIU Books IncludED program which provides all degree-seeking students with all required course materials free of charge -- including graduate and online students.

Additionally, the University has launched its “Be a Champ, Get the Shot” initiative focused on promoting increased vaccination rates for the entire University community. Students who submit their proof of vaccination will have a chance to win free tuition and fees for the upcoming Fall semester. Other prizes like Dusty Dollars and other gift cards will also be awarded throughout the semester. For more information, visit https://go.tamiu.edu/beachamp.
