‘8 Femmes’ at French Film Series May 2

French Film Series Features
‘8 Femmes’ at TAMIU May 23

What does a musical have to do with a murder?

That's part of the mystery of  “8 Femmes,” the next offering in Texas A&M International University's “La Vie En France French Film Series.”

“8 Femmes” will be presented Wednesday, May 23 at 9 a.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. It is free of charge and open to the public.

“8 Femmes” is a combination of a musical comedy mixed with a murder mystery, all set in the 50s.  It features three generations of talented and famous actresses in France.  Characters break into popular French songs, creating an ironic disconnect.

Next on the Film Series schedule are the following:

“L'Appartement,” Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. - This film is by Luis Gerardo Otero, based on a short story by TAMIU's professor of Spanish, Dr. José Cardona-López.  This film is about Benôit and Natalia, a couple who fell in love while each searches for an apartment in Paris.

“Le chignon d'Olga,” Wednesday, May 30 at 9 p.m. - The film tells the story of a young man named Julien who loses his mother but then finds love.  He and his entire family experience the pain of the losing of their mother, but initially can't talk about it.

The TAMIU French Film Festival was made possible in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This film series is a part of the Tournées Festival. The program is made possible with the generous support of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Centre National de la Cinématographie, the Grand Marnier Foundation, the Florence Gould Foundation and the Franco-American Cultural Fund (SACEM, the Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America and the Motion Picture Association).
