Elizabeth N. Martínez, associate vice president for administration, said Wheeler's certification will be an asset to TAMIU and the community.

"Her accomplishment contributes to the overall success of this department. We are proud she has a commitment to her profession and that this commitment will allow us to provide the best service to our employees and the community as a whole in our human resources mission," said Martínez.

She explained Wheeler is now one of three certified human resource professionals at TAMIU. The other two are Sandra V. Peña, associate director of Human Resources, who earned her PHR certification in 2001, and Martínez, who earned her Senior Professional in HR in 2003.

Wheeler joined TAMIU in July 2003. Previously she worked as a human resources specialist at Doctor's Hospital and program coordinator at West Virginia University Health Sciences Center. She earned her Masters of Industrial Labor Relations and her Masters of Pubic Administration & Health Care Administration Certificate from the West Virginia University.
