54 Partake in TAMIU Energy
Conservation Workshops

Some 54 local residential building contractors had an opportunity to learn about energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy through an innovative series of workshops conducted this summer at Texas A&M International University.

The workshop series was offered by TAMIU in partnership with the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) and the assistance of the City of Laredo Building Department and the Laredo Builders Association (LBA) Education Committee. (photo)

Training sessions included the Texas Residential Code and the basic code requirements on air leakage and insulation, building envelopes, and HVAC and compliance methods.

The initiative was developed with the assistance of TAMIU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Dan Jones; Pat Abrego, TAMIU director of instructional technology; Erasmo Villarreal, City of Laredo building department director and Steve Canales, LBA education committee chair.

Among residential building companies participating were Habitat for Humanity, Icon Builders, Terracon, Blue J Homes, Armadillo Homes, MSH Builders, West Wind Homes, MG Builders, 1st Builders, City of Laredo, Webb County and a number of self-proprietors.
