Texas A&M International University interim Athletics Director Claudio Arias announced that Shane Rinner has been selected as the school’s next men’s basketball coach. Rinner will take over a Dustdevil program entering its second season as an active Heartland Conference and NCAA Division II member in 2009-10.

Rinner assumes head coaching duties for the first time after serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Alaska Anchorage the last six years. The Seawolves compiled a 113-67 record during Rinner’s tenure, qualifying for the NCAA Division II Tournament four times and making it to the national semifinal round in 2008.

Rinner recruited and signed several All-Conference and All-American student-athletes at UAA. He was also responsible for fund-raising initiatives and scheduling for the highly-successful Great Alaska Shootout.

Prior to arriving at Alaska Anchorage, Rinner gained experience at various levels of collegiate coaching. He broke into the profession as an assistant at Biola University in 1994 before moving on to Liberty University, Marshalltown Community College and a second stint at Biola. Rinner also served as head coach of the Glostrup Giants in Denmark for one season.

A native of Anchorage, Rinner played collegiate basketball at Southwestern (Calif.) Junior College and Biola. He earned a bachelor’s in physical education with a minor in biblical studies from Biola.
