TAMIU Economic Impact Analysis FY 2021

For this study, we determined Webb County to be TAMIU’s service region. As of the 2020 census, Webb County’s populationwas 267,114. Byarea,Webb County is the largest county in South Texas and the sixth largest in the State of Texas. Laredo serves as its county seat. Webb County is predominantly Hispanic, with 95.2% of the county’s population identifying as such. This makes Webb County the county with the second-highest proportion of Hispanic people in the continental United States and the county with the highest proportion of Hispanic people among counties with a population over 100,000. The Gross Regional Product (GRP) of Webb County is $8.7 billion, as illustrated in Table 5.1 This is equal to total output ($16 billion) less total intermediary inputs ($7 billion).
