TAMIU Economic Impact Analysis FY 2021

TAMIU promotes economic growth in Webb County through its direct expenditures and regional businesses’ indirect expenditures. The University is an employer and buyer of goods and services for its day-to-day operations. TAMIU is a primary source of higher education to Webb County residents and a supplier of trained workers to regional industries, enhancing overall productivity in the regional workforce. The combination of indirect and induced impact is called the multiplier effect. TAMIU boosts the local economy through both direct and indirect outcomes. TAMIU faculty, staff, and administrative employees’ income are utilized to buy local goods and services, creating a ripple effect throughout the region’s economy. Direct Effect: Impacts generated as a result of spending by TAMIU on capital projects, operations, and pay and benefits. Indirect Effect: The increase in demand for goods and services in industry sectors that supply or support TAMIU, its students, and visitors. Induced Effect: The estimated effect of increased household income, including housing, household goods, entertainment, food, clothing, transportation, and other categories of household spending resulting from TAMIU employee, student, and supplier spending. TAMIU produces several economic impacts on Webb County. As an employer and consumer of products and services, through its regular operations and student spending, the University pulls in funds that would not have otherwise entered the Webb County economy.
