TAMIU Economic Impact Analysis FY 2021

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This report seeks to evaluate the economic impact of Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) on theWebb County economy. This analysis will demonstrate the significance of TAMIU on the Webb County economy. In fiscal year 2021 (FY21), TAMIU spent $62.1million on payroll and benefits for 1,494 full and part-time employees, including faculty, and another $31 million on day-to-day expenses related to facilities, supplies, and professional services for carrying out its daily operations. This spending by the University generates diverse multiplier effects among a variety of businesses in Webb County. According to this study, TAMIU’s payroll, benefits, and operating expenses, alongwith thoseof its students, produced $162.1million in additional income, or Gross Regional Product (GRP) for the economy of Webb County in FY21. TAMIU’s alumni-generated human capital, and capital expenditures, created ancillary impacts of $193.5 million for the economy of Webb County. The additional regional income from TAMIU’s operating and student expenses (or additional GRP) is equivalent to creating close to 2,100 new jobs and over 4,100 jobs from its alumni and capital expenditures. This represents approximately 4.1 percent of the total GRP of Webb County. TAMIU produced $355 Million in GRP & over 6,200 jobs for the Webb County economy in 2021 4
