Dr. Patricia C. Abrego, director of TAMIU Instructional Technology and Distance Education, was elected Area Director for the Texas Computer Education Association.

Dr. Patricia C. Abrego, director of Texas A&M International University Instructional Technology and Distance Education, has been elected Area Director for the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA). Her term begins April 2011.

TCEA is the largest state organization devoted to the use of technology in education. Founded in 1980, it is a strong advocate for instructional technology.

Area directors are elected to represent 20 geographical areas across the State as defined by Regional Education Service Centers. Directors are the chief elected officers for these areas and attend and having voting privileges at TCEA Board meetings. They organize Area activities, promote Area membership, contribute to the TCEA communications network and budget and direct Area funds. Area directors also work on assigned committees, chair the Area Council and advise local Chapters in the Area.

Dr. Abrego said she is honored by her election by the TCEA membership and looks forward to increasing interest and participation in TCEA locally and throughout the region.

“Our primary focus is on integrating technology into the PreK-12 environment and providing our members with state-of-the-art information through conferences, workshops, newsletters, the Internet, and collaborations with higher education and business. We’re also affiliated with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) which provides a two-way channel of information throughout the world. I encourage all local and area instructional technology professionals to join me in advancing our profession,” Abrego said.

Abrego joined TAMIU in January 2006. She previously worked at United Independent School District.

She holds her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. Her M.S. in Educational Administration was earned at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Her BBA was earned at the former Laredo State University, now TAMIU.
