TAMIU Dates Series of
Tuition/Fee Hearings

Student hearings for proposed Texas A&M International University tuition and fee increases identified by the Student Fee Advisory Committee will be held Thursday, Feb. 16 at noon, Thursday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. and
Monday, Feb. 27 at noon. All hearings will take place in the Student Center Rotunda.

The proposed increases are for the 2013-2014 school year. The Student Fee Advisory Committee is comprised of students, faculty and staff members. It studies and forwards any proposed fee increases.

In addition to the tuition and fee increases, the Committee has also forwarded a referendum that, if passed, would create a computer lounge addition to the TAMIU Student Center.

The Student Center fee would increase by $3 per semester credit hour and fund construction of a two-story addition connecting north and south sides of the Student Center across the east end patio.

Specifically, the Student Center addition’s second floor would house a large, open computer lounge for students. The first floor would add seating to Dusty’s Diner and move Dusty’s Den, a game room, downstairs with a separate entrance and restrooms.

The existing patio would be enclosed on four sides, but remain open from above, allowing for shaded outdoor events. The Student Center was constructed in 2002 when the University’s student population numbered about 3,300. A renovation in 2011 expanded dining space to accommodate the University’s mushrooming enrollment, which exceeded 7,000 students last fall.

Online voting for the referendum by currently enrolled students will take place Tuesday, Feb. 29 – Thursday, March 1.
