TAMIU Mariachi Performs in Concert Friday

TAMIU Mariachi Internacional Performs
in Concert Friday @ 7:30 p.m.

Fresh off their whirlwind workshop and concert performance with Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán de Guadalajara, the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Mariachi Internacional performs in concert at TAMIU Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ (CFPA) Recital Hall.

The Concert is free of charge and open to the public.  Joining the Mariachi will be special guests, the Laredo Youth Orchestra.  The Mariachi is directed by Daniel García, TAMIU visiting instructor.

The evening’s program will include stirring renditions of mariachi standards by famed composers including Vicente Fernández, Carlos Martínez, Silvestre Vargas and Rubén Fuentes, among others.

Performances will include “La Negra,” “ El Pastor,”  “Perdón,”  “Reloj,”  “Guadalajara La Bella,” a special arrangement of “Las Olas,” as played by Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, and more.

Earlier this month, TAMIU’s Mariachi Internacional participated in the First Annual International Mariachi Workshop, led by the University’s Artists in Residence, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán.

The University students joined over 200 high school students in the Workshop, which culminated in a scholarship benefit concert, “México, Voz Que Canta,”at the Laredo Civic Center.
