Mission

The Office of Student Orientation, Leadership, and Engagement (SOLE) is committed to the success of students at Texas A&M International University by offering numerous student involvement opportunities that enhance learning across the University campus.  The skills learned in the variety of unique programs and opportunities, are centered upon the University's core principles of respect, integrity, service and excellence that will prepare students to become engaged citizens in a global society.

Value Statement

The Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement (SOLE) is committed to providing students the opportunity to become involved on campus through a variety of innovative co-curricular programs that enhance the academic learning environment at Texas A&M International University.  As part of the Division of Student Success, we are committed to student access, engagement, growth and success.

Goals

Dynamic Orientation Programs
The Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement will design and implement orientation programs to assist new students and their families be successful as they transition from their previous campus (TAMIU Aspiration 2: Empowered Student Success).

1.1 Provide relevant student-centered orientation programs to the individuals we serve.
1.2 Train and develop students to serve as ambassadors for the University.
1.3 Collaborate with University entities to foster programs while complying with System, State and Federal regulations.
1.4 Use emerging technologies that maintain efficiency and success.
1.5 Develop and implement an ongoing pre and post-orientation communication plan.

Infused Leadership Programs
The Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement will foster the development of leaders who are value orientation, critical thinkers, self-aware and civically engaged (TAMIU Aspiration 2: Empowered Student Success, TAMIU Aspiration 5: Glocal Social Catalyst).

2.1 Monitor co-curricular opportunities to ensure relevancy in a changing society.
2.2 Collaborate with appropriate academic programs to solidify and enhance established outcomes.
2.3 Further embed experiences and skills learned in co-curricular and curricular transcripts.
2.4 Assist students and work with other departments to develop and market skills learned.

Transformative Co-Curricular Experiences
The Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement will provide students opportunities for personal growth and development through a variety of co-curricular experiences (TAMIU Aspiration 2: Empowered Student Success, TAMIU Aspiration 5: Glocal Social Catalyst).

3.1 Serve as the central department for on and off-campus student engagement.
3.2 Offer student engagement experiences that provide skills development outside of the classroom.
3.3 Train student leaders to become engaged University and Community citizens.
3.4 Engage students in learning experiences involving student organization and development.
3.5 Develop student organizations, their student leaders and advisors to develop attainable, yearly goals and outcomes.
3.6 Collaborate with University offices, as appropriate, to expand services and opportunities for students.
3.7 Use appropriate technology to engage students in unique ways.
