To fulfill the University mission in offering baccalaureate programs
in the arts, as well as the commitment to the preparation of students
for leadership roles in professions related to the fine and performing
arts. (1) The students’ knowledge and appreciation of culture, fine
arts, social integration, and self-realization.
Intended Educational (Student) Outcomes:
1. Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music will
acquire satisfactory musical knowledge and skills in addition to a basic
liberal arts education.
2. Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music will be
proficient on the performance skills on one major instrument (at a minimum).
3. Students completing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music will
be prepared to attain professional positions in music related fields

acquire satisfactory musical knowledge and skills in addition to a basic
liberal arts education.
First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
___1_a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music graduates will be measured using a departmentally-administered
comprehensive music examination. Students must score at least 70% on
the examination.
___1_a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Insufficient data has been collected up to this point, as two students
have graduated since the degree was approved in late 2002. The two students
scored at least 70% or higher on the examination.
___1_a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
At this time, the program faculty can make no recommendations for
alterations to the degree program or this means of assessment.
Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
___1_b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music graduates will be surveyed regarding their
successful entry into graduate music programs.
___1_b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
No data has been collected regarding entry into graduate music programs
as of this date. Two students have graduated and obtained employment
since this degree was approved in late 2002.

At this time, the program faculty can make no recommendations for
alterations to the degree program or this means of assessment..

Students completing the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree will demonstrate
their proficiency on a major instrument before a panel of music instructors
(Final Juries).
___2_a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Insufficient/limited data was collected as two students have graduated
with this degree since the approval of this program on Fall 2002. These
students demonstrated satisfactory proficiency on their juries.
___2_a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
At this time, the program faculty can make no recommendations for
alterations to the degree program or this means of assessment.
Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music students will perform satisfactorily in
music concerts, festivals, and workshops.
___2_b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Two students have graduated as of this date, which represents limited
and/or insufficient data. The department received official status and
approved degrees during the Fall 2002 semester.
___2_b. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
At this time, the program faculty can make no recommendations for
alterations to the degree program or this means of assessment.

will be prepared to attain professional positions in music related fields.
First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
___3_a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Bachelor of Arts in Music graduates will be surveyed one year after
graduation by the Department to gather supporting data concerning whether
or not the student was able to gain employment in the music field.
Benchmark for employment success is at least 70%.
__ 3 a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Two students have graduated with this degree since its approval
(Fall 2002), and they have successfully been employed in the music field.
However, two students represent limited/insufficient data for assessment.
___3_a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
At this time, the program faculty can make no recommendations for
alterations to the degree program or this means of assessment.
Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:
___3_b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Employers of music graduates will be surveyed two years after graduation
by the Department to gather supporting data concerning satisfactory
performance of graduate on their jobs.
___3_b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
No data collected as of this date as the first BA in Music student
graduated during the 2003 spring semester. This degree was approved
and became official in late 2002.
___3_b. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:
At this time, the program faculty can make no recommendations for
alterations to the degree program or this means of assessment.
