The mission of the Psychology faculty is to engage students in active, reflective learning in the broad discipline of psychology. We strive to provide an open, supportive and diverse environment that emphasizes knowledge of the theory and content of psychology as well as development of skills such as critical thinking, use of research and evaluation methods, and creative application of psychology to human concerns and development. Our goal is excellence in teaching and research. We value our role as mentors to our undergraduate and graduate students. Helping our students attain their educational and career goals is one of our central values. The psychology faculty is also actively committed to conducting high quality research, presenting scholarly work at professional conferences and providing service to the university and community. We endeavor to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues from other disciplines and to cultivate the ethics and values of psychology with our students. We strive to be sensitive to the special issues of life in border communities and celebrate the rich diversity within our university and the Laredo community.
