Admissions to the Educator Preparation Program

   Before a person can be admitted into the College of Education at Texas A&M International University, they must meet the following criteria: (undergraduate and post-baccalaureate certification program)

  1. Admission to the University.
  2. Submit an application to the Educator Preparation Program.  (Fee: $10.00)
  3. Must complete ALL freshman and sophomore level coursework and MATH 1350/1351.
  4. Successfully pass one of the following basic skills tests*.

    MATH
    WRITING
    THEA

    Minimum Scores:  

     
    COMPOSITE

    SAT

    *Test scores obtained more than five years before applying for admission to the program will not be accepted

    BASIC SKILLS MAY BE SATISFIED UNDER THE "B or better rule"

    FOR READING, WRITING, AND MATHEMATICS.

  5. Successfully pass the SPEAK Test for Oral English Proficiency.  (Fee: $10.00) This test demonstrates your proficiency to communicate English. SPEAK TEST MAY BE SATISFIED UNDER THE "B or better rule" "SPEECH 1311
  6. Students who declared education as their degree in 2002-2007 must have an overall grade point average (ogpa) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale on ALL college or university level courses.

     

* Texas now requires that all Education Preparation Programs test prospective teachers for basic skills, oral English proficiency, and critical thinking.

  1. Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  2. Admission to the University.
  3. Successfully pass one of the following basic skills tests*.
