Roberto Arzola
Distinguished Student Scholar
Roberto Arzola, son of Rev. Roberto Arzola and Elvia M. Arzola, is
a Laredo native and 2008 graduate of J.B. Alexander Health Science
Magnet School. Today, he graduates magna cum laude with a 3.7
GPA. He is earning a Bachelor of Business Administration with
double concentrations in Finance and International Economics and a
Certification in International Studies.
While a student at TAMIU, Arzola was a D.D. Hachar and University
Honors Program scholar. He has been a member of Phi Kappa Phi
Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society. He studied abroad in Holland and
served the Student Government Association as an A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business Senator. He
worked as a tutor and student mentor and volunteered at the South Texas Food Bank and as a coach
for a sixth grade flag-football and basketball teams. Arzola also found time to play saxophone for the
TAMIU Jazz and Concert bands for three years.
He plans to pursue a career in commercial real estate investments and hopes to leverage the networks
he creates to fulfill his dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Marisol AlejandraContreras was born inMexicoCity and is the youngest
daughter of Alejandro and Soledad Contreras. She graduated from
Laredo’s John B. Alexander High School in May 2009 as a distinguished
student and received the D. D. Hachar Honors Scholarship and the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Undergraduate
Scholarship. At TAMIU, she has been an active member of the D. D.
Hachar Honors Program, University Honors Program, Association of
International Students and the National Student Speech Language and
Hearing Association. In her spare time, she is an assistant confirmation teacher at St. Jude Catholic
Church. Contreras will be graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Communication
Disorders and a 3.926 GPA. This Fall, she will attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and
begin her graduate studies in TCU’s Communication Sciences and Disorders Program.
