TAMIU Alumni Victory!
The TAMIU men’s soccer team reached a milestone on March 31st by playing their first alumni game ever in the history of the athletic programs. This game would have not been possible without the great support from TAMIU Alumni Association president, Orlando Navarro ’94. “This game is a

great opportunity for us to come back to
TAMIU and cheer for the ‘men in suits’,”
Orlando told us. And, to our surprise, our
alumni president was able to cook,
despite
the weather.
For TAMIU Soccer Coach Arias this was a great opportunity to bring former soccer players back to campus; “It was great seeing former players back wearing TAMIU gear. I hope we continue this tradition and hopefully this event encourages other programs to also include their alumni.”
Although, the result was not a success for the current TAMIU soccer team, Coach Arias believes that the goal for this event was met. “I hope we could have won, but the alumni seemed more determined to win. I think that after an early goal, the current TAMIU players thought that the game was going to be easy, but that was not the case. No matter what, it was a great day when old friends were reunited and new friendships were built. I am really thankful to Patty McBain, alumni relations director and Juan García Jr., ’05, new student information specialist, for all the efforts in organizing this event.” The idea of an alumni soccer game was generated from a conversation between coach Arias and Juan García Jr. outside the Office of Recruitment several months ago. Arias states, "Plans are already being made for next year's alumni soccer events - so get yourselves in shape!"

We are extremely grateful to Councilman Gene Belmares for his donation of food and to TAMIU Alumni Association president, Orlando Navarro ’94 for his time and cooking skills.
