Synthesis
of Organic Molecules

| Four semester hours |
| Application of structural concepts and functional group reactions to the synthesis of organic compounds. Factors in the design of multistep synthesis such as functional group transformation, protecting groups, and reaction stereochemistry will be explored. Complex molecules such as steroids, alkaloids and pharmaceuticals will be examined through literature sources. Course includes three hours of laboratory per week. Prerequisite: CHEM 2425. Laboratory fee: $15.00 |
