Early American Literature
 
Three semester hours
 

A study of American literature from its beginning to 1836. Though the course will emphasize English language writings of the Colonial, Pre-Revolutionary, and Early Republican periods, it will also feature in translations works from the Native American oral tradition and from the Spanish and French exploration and colonization of North America. Prerequisite: Three hours sophomore literature or consent of instructor. May be taken for graduate credit.
