Dusty's Junior University Summer Camp 2019
Little Picassos Campers will learn and practice different types of painting and drawing. Quoting Michelange- lo, “The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.” They will work with watercolor, acrylic paint, and pastels. Campers will be learn how to combine primary colors with secondary colors to create a tertiary color. Session 1, Block 3 Session 2, Block 3 Session 3, Block 2 Session 4, Block 2 Soap Box Car Students will experience hands-on STEM concepts such as Kinetic and Potential Energy building their own Soap Box Derby Cars! They will design their car and actually build it from the ground up. They will team up with members of the awarding Winning TAMIU DustyMOTOR. After a month, students will be able to race them. Three model cars will be built and two will go home with the students. Students will get to experience a part of popu- lar history that is Soap Box Derby racing. Space is limited to 15 students and participants must be enrolled the full month of June. Session 1, Block TBA Session 2, Block TBA Young Marketers Our children can convince us to do anything… why not turn them into Young Marketers? During their time in class, campers will learn what the world of marketing consists of such as: what it is to sell a product and how to design a marketing campaign. They engage in tasks such as creating an email campaign, using third party templates and their own photographs. If time permits, students will also have the chance to create their own marketing videos and even radio ads, in house. Session 3, Block 4 Session 4, Block 4 Minion Lab Ready for some explosions! Inspired by Dis- ney’s Despicable Me, campers will play the role of Minions in this lively science class. They will have the opportunity to feel like a scientist working in the lab. They will be discovering how to conduct safe chemical reactions, build active volcanoes, and launch their own rockets. So let’s get them ready to put on their lab coats! Session 3, Block 3 Session 4, Block 3 Dusty’s Musicians This class offers students an exciting oppor- tunity to learn about music without making a long-term commitment to lessons. Kids will learn the basics of reading music notes and musicianship in a fun, interactive, friendly, supportive and game-based environment. The class offers group instruction with a super- vised practice time. This will be a month-long course. Session 1, Block 1 Session 2, Block 1 Session 3, Block 1 Session 4, Block 1 Young Architects Architecture is all around us from the homes we live in to the schools we attend. Manipulat- ing a space for a specific function is extremely crucial in our society. Students will be able to further explore their skills of space manipula- tion in this class. They will study famous struc- tures such as their use, design, and function within society. As the class progresses, they will be involved in designing, building, and presenting their own structures. Besides learn- ing drawing and design, students will further develop their critical thinking skills. Session 1, Block 1 Session 2, Block 1
