The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program is a federally funded program funded through the U.S. Department of Education that provides academic assistance to eligible undergraduate students.  The program provides tutoring, counseling, remediation and other support services to low-income, first-generation or students with disabilities. The goal of the Texas A&M International University Student Support Services Program is to increase retention and graduation rates and to foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of every program participant.

To qualify for the SSS Program you must be a student at Texas A&M International University, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • A first generation college student.
  • Low-income according to guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Have a documented physical or learning disability.

Students who meet the above criteria can apply to become a participant in the SSS Program at any point in their undergraduate career and at any time during the semester.  To apply for the program you may pick up an application in the TRiO SSS Office, Billy Cowart Hall 208; an online application is also available at  With the completed application you must bring the following:

  • Applicants 1040 if he/she filed
  • Parents 1040 if they filed
  • Permanent Resident Alien Card (if this applies)
  • Unofficial transcript
  • Current class schedule
