Perry Brings TAMIU $37.5 million reprinted from The Laredo Morning Times
At the ceremonial bill signing held on July 11th at Texas A&M International University Student Center, Gov. Rick Perry said the state will have to focus on providing more higher education opportunities for its fast-growing population. “Higher education will be one of the bigger challenges for us,” Perry said after signing a copy of House Bill 153, which will provide $37.5 million in construction funds to TAMIU and $1.9 billion to 48 universities and colleges statewide. Recently, Dr. Ray M. Keck III, president of Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and Dr. Rumaldo Z. Juárez, president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), signed an intrasystem cooperative agreement regarding communication sciences and disorders programs. The two universities will work together to strengthen their programs to enhance the inclusion of both faculty and students in education and research. Click here for the entire story... Sharkey-Corrigan Organ Unveiled reprinted from The Laredo Morning TimesA powerful sound filled the auditorium Sunday at Texas A&M International University in the debut performance of the Sharkey-Corrigan Pipe Organ. The 26-foot-tall, $1 million organ – donated by a local philanthropist – “Dr. Heller really showed us what the organ could do,” said TAMIU President Ray Keck III, who called the event “exquisite.” Heller’s set covered works ranging from Bach to “America the Beautiful.” Heller also premiered a piece commissioned for the organ’s inauguration: Gerre Hancock’s “A Laredo Fanfare.” The organist, a well-known Trinity University professor, gave an inspired performance.
