A&M International Faculty Member Receives Elite Moncado Prize

Dr. Xiaoming Zhang, Texas A&M International University Associate Professor of History, has been named the recipient of the 1997 Moncado Prize by the Society for Military History.

Dr. Zhang's "The Vietnam War, 1964-1969: A Chinese Perspective," was selected for the honor. It has been previously published in the October 1996 issue of The Journal of Military History.

The Moncado Prize is the oldest award presented by the Society and only four such prizes are presented annually in recognition of scholarship, presentation and originality in research that makes a significant contribution to the field of military history.

Notice of the award was provided by Roy K. Flint, president of the North Carolina-based Society for Military History.

Zhang's award will be presented in special ceremonies scheduled April 11 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Zhang earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Iowa. His MA in History is also from Iowa. He also holds a BA in English literature from the Nanjing Teachers University of China.

His areas of specialty are Chinese history, Sino-American relations, Modern US Political Science and US-Foriegn Relations.

Prior to joining A&M International, he was a lecturer in Chinese language and culture and an assistant professor of history at Texas Tech University.

Other positions as lecturer have been held at Mount Mercy College, the University of Iowa, and Hehai University of China.
