Texas A&M International University will host a reception honoring scholarship donors and recipients on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building (room 319).

Individuals, families and businesses who have made a significant investment in the lives of A&M International students will be recognized during the reception. The event will also afford scholarship donors an opportunity to meet the students who benefited from their generous donations, said event organizer Dr. Stephen Brown, Dean of Student Affairs at A&M International.

"Not many people can say they are contributing directly to the future quality of life of our community. But our scholarship donors can. They have made an investment in education which is the most direct method we know of insuring that a qualified workforce and an educated leadership will guide our community into the 21st century," he said.

Rebecca C. Sepulveda, Director of Development in the University's Office for Advancement and External Affairs, added that contributions to scholarships have a direct correlation to student success.

"If our students know that the community is investing in their future, they are more likely to rise to our best expectations as citizens and members of our global society," she explained.

The event will begin with a period for socializing, with refreshments courtesy of H-E-B Grocery Stores.

The formal program includes a welcome from Gilbert Cardenas, Freshman Scholar and member of the University's Student Ambassadors, a student service organization; and welcoming remarks and recognition of donors by A&M International president Dr. J. Charles Jennett; and remarks from Dr. Jose G. Garcia, President of the Laredo Daybreak Rotary Club, and Dr. Stephen Brown, Dean of Student Affairs at A&M International.

A short video produced by the Office of Advancement and External Affairs will also be presented during the program. The video includes testimonials from scholarship recipients.
