A workshop on grant resources will help area residents find and use data to support grant applications during the second of two sessions offered jointly by Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library and Laredo Public Library's Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center Tuesday, May 14.

The workshop, entitled, "Finding the Numbers," will begin at 2 p.m. in the HEB Multipurpose Room at the Laredo Public Library, 1120 E. Calton Road.

While the previous workshop focused on finding funding sources, this workshop will show participants how to find the data necessary to support a grant application.

Joshua Been, TAMIU government information library and co-presenter, said many resources are available to help support a grant application.

"We can show people how to access the data you need to convince donors of your eligibility, including demographic data and data about economic conditions. We'll also be able to show participants how to produce documents using this data, including maps," said Been.

Homero Vásquez, coordinator of the Nonprofit Management & Volunteer Center and co-presenter, said this workshop would be a special opportunity for Laredoans.

"There are a lot of organizations that could benefit from grant money but the organizations don't know how to find the numbers, or how to show them once they've found them. This workshop can help," said Vásquez.

Each workshop serves as one of the three required workshops for agencies receiving third party funding from the City of Laredo, said Vázquez.

To register for the workshop, please contact the Laredo Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center at the Laredo Public Library at 795.2400, ext. 2255 or visit offices at 1120 East Calton Road.
