Mexico’s Energy Reform Topic of TAMIU-IBC Lecture Feb. 12

Mexico’s energy reform is the focus of the upcoming Texas A&M International University International Bank of Commerce 2013-14 Keynote Speaker Series scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12. A reception starts at 7 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center (SC) Ballroom.

This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the TAMIU A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business’ Center for the Student of Western Hemispheric Trade.

Dr. Duncan Wood, director, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars México Institute in Washington, D.C., will present “México and the Changing North American Energy Environment.”

For 17 years, Dr. Wood was a professor and the director of the International Relations Program at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City and also held the role of researcher at the Centro de Derecho Económico Internacional at ITAM.

Between 2007 and 2009, he was technical secretary of the Red Mexicana de Energia, a group of experts in the area of energy policy in Mexico. He has been a Senior Associate with the Simon Chair and the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C. His research focuses on Mexican energy policy, including renewable energy, and North American relations.

He is a member of the Mexican National Research System (level 2), a member of the editorial board of Foreign Affairs Latinoamerica and has been an editorial advisor to Reforma newspaper.

Wood studied in the UK and Canada, receiving his Ph.D. in political studies from Queen’s University, Canada in 1996.
