This weekend, Texas A&M International University will host two distinct awards ceremonies to recognize student leadership and positive community impact.

On Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m., the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre will host the 5th Annual Emerging Leaders Celebration.  This event serves to recognize over 200 of TAMIU’s most involved students who have participated in dozens of student leadership development experiences TAMIU provides for students to gain valuable skills in communication, teamwork and professionalism.

Among leadership programs being recognized at Friday’s event are the Freshman Leadership Organization, Sophomore Leaders Involved in Change, Leadership TAMIU, Rec Sports Leadership Journey and recipients of Presidential Volunteer Service Awards.

The recognition weekend continues on Saturday with the presentation of the 21st Annual University Life Awards at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.  University Life Awards are one of TAMIU’s longest observed traditions and recognize student leaders and accomplishments by the 100+ students clubs and organizations that consistently and positively impact the communities they serve.

The University’s Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement (SOLE) hosts these student clubs and organizations which provide students valuable leadership skills and opportunities to connect with the campus.

Saturday’s program will also feature the President’s Volunteer Service Awards for organizations, the Student Employee of the Year Award, and the prestigious Senator Judith Zaffirini Scholarship and Leadership Award, presented to one student who has a demonstrated commitment to academic success, leadership and service.
