TAMIU Recognizes Emerging Leaders, University Life Awards Recipients

 

Emerging Leaders
 

Outstanding students, faculty advisors, programs and administrators were the star of the show during two signature Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) events held recently to honor those who showed remarkable leadership abilities as well as world, community and campus volunteerism this year.

The 6th Annual Emerging Leaders Celebration celebrated the successful completion of TAMIU leadership programs hosted around the University. 

Similarly, the 22nd Annual University Life Awards marked accomplishments of student leaders and organizations at TAMIU.

The estimated economic impact of these leaders’ activities was $917,082 this year. The total time contributed in service projects clocked 41,685 hours.

Among agencies and groups benefiting from TAMIU students’ service were the Children’s Advocacy Center, Laredo and United Independent School Districts, South Texas Food Bank, Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center, Literacy Volunteers of Laredo, South Texas Special Olympics, Border Olympics, NeighborWorks of Laredo, the Laredo Animal Care Facility, Instituto Cultural de México (Consulado Mexicano), Workforce Solutions of South Texas, City of Laredo, Keeping Laredo Beautiful, Volunteers Serving the Need, CASA Voz de Niño, and the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association.

EMERGING LEADERS CELEBRATION AWARDS

Groups recognized at the Emerging Leaders Celebration included:

Freshman Leadership Organization, The Leadership Journey, Honor Council, Advising and Mentoring Center Success Mentors, Sophomore Leaders Involved in Change, Student Success Mentors, Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, International Leadership Fellows, Focus on Student Success, Leadership TAMIU and the TAMIU Trailblazers.

University offices recognizing students included:

University College and the Advising and Mentoring Center; Title V: Focus on Student Success; International Engagement; Recreational Sports; Student Conduct and Community Engagement;  Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement; and the Division of Student Success.

UNIVERSITY LIFE AWARDS

Awards recipients honored at the University Life Awards were:

SGA Administrator of the Year: Anette Lara-Gordillo, Outreach Coordinator (Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement)

3rd - ARSSB Dean’s Student Advisory Council, 4th -  Enactus

CAB Rookie of the Year: Lesly Morgado

CAB Most Valuable Cabbie: Julie Carmona

Freshmen Excellence Award: Dario Zamora, A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business
Dean’s Student Advisory Council

Student Employee of the Year: Ryan Hodgson, Office of Information Technology
