Deadline Monday for Applications for TAMIU Summer Engineering Workshop

Monday is the deadline  for middle and high school students with an interest in science, technology and engineering to apply to join a one-week summer workshop Aug. 6 – 10 at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

Applications must be submitted by Monday, July 30.

The workshop, organized through the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering ,and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP), focuses on helping students develop their analytical skills and prepare for college-level coursework. It is the second workshop session for the University’s MSEIP-Engineering Program that took place June 25-29.

Workshop sessions will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will not be provided. Workshop applicants can apply to the program by visiting go.tamiu.edu/MSEIPWorkshop18. All applicants must submit a 200-word essay detailing their career goals, interest in engineering, and perceived challenges to earning a degree.

Workshop sessions will cover various topics from virtual reality, programming, electrical engineering, 3D printing, and more. Participants also will work in teams to design, assemble and program their own robots. The week-long session will include visits to the Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium and the University’s Robotics lab.

Throughout the session, students have the chance to speak and interact with local engineers and University faculty, and participate in information sessions on the University’s application process.
