What once began as a celebration of academic achievement is quickly becoming a cherished tradition among students at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

The much-loved TAMIU Class Ring Ceremony is slated for Monday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Recital Hall.

The Ceremony serves as a moment to encapsulate the memories of a student’s life at the University. While the campus continues to grow and change, the class ring is an icon that represents a tangible connection to the University.

“Our TAMIU Class Ring Ceremony, a cherished tradition at TAMIU, celebrates the achievements of our students and forever connects them to past, present and future generations of alumni at home and around the world,” said Yelitza Howard, director of Alumni Relations.

The first Class Ring ceremony was held in 2011. Since then, the tradition has grown tremendously, with more and more students participating each year.

Based on one of the campus’ most familiar sights, the Acequia Fountain plays a fundamental role in the ceremony. Each ring recipient dips their class ring into a basin of water from the Acequia Fountain to symbolize future opportunities.

Students wear their ring with the University name facing them. Upon graduation, the ring is turned around facing outward, a symbol of each graduate’s readiness to face the world outside the University.

Alumni and students who have completed a minimum of 75 credit hours are eligible to purchase their class ring.
