BACHELOR OF APPLIED ARTS AND SCIENCES

 

The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree is an inverted degree program specifically designed to allow individuals who hold an Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from an accredited institution with a major in a technical/vocational area the opportunity to obtain a baccalaureate degree without the significant loss of credits that normally occurs in pursuing a traditional degree. The degree is designed to afford academic depth to individuals who possess recognized competency in an occupational or technical field.

Thirty (30) hours of vocational/technical field courses will be used as part of the lower-level requirements at the freshman/sophomore level. In some instances individuals may be granted vocational/technical field credit for work experience. This is not intended as a teacher preparation degree.

 

The BAAS degree will be awarded to individuals who complete the following requirements:

History and Geography - Three courses chosen from: GEOG 3350, HIST 3302, 3310, 4302, 4367 (for History, Political Science and Urban Studies Track: GEOG 3350/3351, HIST 3302, 3310)
 
Anthropology and Sociology - Two courses chosen from: ANTH 3304, 3306, 3351,4301, SOCI 3302, 3307, 4301, 4370

  History: Four courses from the following groups with at least one course in each group. Group I: HIST 4316, 4317, 4318, 4367, 4368. Group II: HIST 3370, 3380, 3385, 4364, 4390
  Management Information Systems: MIS 2350, 3310 and four courses from MIS
3320, MIS 3330, MIS 3340, MIS 3350, MIS 3399, MIS 4399 or any approved MIS elective.
  Political Science: PSCI 3310, 4320, 4335 and three courses from any 3000-4000 level PSCI electives.
  Urban Studies: GEOG 1303, URBS 2301 and four courses chosen from GEOG/HIST 4395, PSCI 4345, SOCI 3316, URBS 4301, GEOG/HIST 3352, GEOG 3353, PSCI 3345, PSCI 4350, SOCI 4317.
  Wildlife Management: BIOL 1413, 2430, 3410, 3385 and one course from BIOL 3407, 3410, 3413, 4401, 4402, 4404, 4408, 4430, ENSC 4310. Students pursuing the BAAS degree with the Wildlife Management track must choose BIOL 1411/1011 and BIOL 1413/1013 as part of the Core Curriculum.
