Creative Writing Minor (English/ Spanish)

The minor in Creative Writing offers a variety of writing courses that may be taken in English or Spanish. The minor is one of the few programs in the United States to offer Creative Writing in Spanish and English. All courses will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills as a creative writer in small class settings, preparing you for the publishing world and entry into a career, graduate school, or professional school. In order to fulfill elective requirements, the upper-levels courses of this minor can be also taken by non-minors.

If you like to write, a minor in Creative Writing may be the right choice. Whether you are exploring your creativity or interested in fully developing your writing skills, a Creative Writing Minor complements any major. We offer Creative Writing courses in a variety of genres, including Fiction, Poetry, and Creative Non-Fiction.

What Can You Do with a Minor in Creative Writing?

Many students who minor in Creative Writing become writers, journalists, translators, and teachers, but others find they are well-prepared for several fields, including film, publishing, advertising, public relations, song writing, arts education, nonprofit work, grant writing, and therapy, among many others. The abilities to write, think, and solve problems creatively are valuable skills for nearly any profession. A Creative Writing Minor also prepares you for graduate study in Creative Writing.
