Certificate in

Nonprofit Leadership & Management

 

Purpose

The certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management is a graduate school level, post-undergraduate, post-graduate certificate program that will develop the unique leadership and management skills needed in nonprofit organizations.

About the Program

The Certificate of Nonprofit Leadership and Management requires 12 semester credit hours of graduate level courses or four(4) classes. It is intended for current master’s students at TAMIU or at any other accredited university, and for graduates holding a minimum undergraduate degree in any discipline who want to acquire skills in leading nonprofit organizations. Courses in the Certificate Program can also be taken to satisfy the elective requirements in the TAMIU Master in Public Administration program and some other Master programs (consult your specific program chair). Courses will be offered completely online and will be completed in five (5) week increments.

Admission to the certificate program

First, those interested in the certificate will need to be admitted to Texas A&M International University through the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, http://www.tamiu.edu/gradschool. The application must be submitted through www.applytexas.org. When prompted for program, click on Nonprofit Leadership and Management.

Second, along with the application to the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, unofficial transcripts from the institution where those interested received their highest degree, i.e. bachelors, masters or Ph.D, need to be submitted. Evidence of successful completion of an undergraduate degree in any field is required.
Full admittance to the Certificate program will be granted to persons who demonstrated a 3.0 or above GPA on all upper level undergraduate or graduate course work. Provisional admittance will be given to those who have less than a 3.0 GPA and full admittance will be given after successful completion (B or higher) of PADM 5377.

Third, an essay needs to be submitted to the program noting why the pursuit of this degree is of significance to you.

Cost

As the Certificate includes graduate level courses which count as graduate credit hours on your official academic TAMIU transcript (successful completion of the certificate will be demonstrated on your academic transcript) the cost reflects TAMIU set rates for graduate credit hours and university fees. Criteria for earning the Certificate

Students must complete four classes in the program, including Survey of Nonprofit Leadership and Management and three others chosen from the following list of courses with a grade point average of at least 3.0 in the certificate coursework.
