Proyecto Amigo is dedicated to supporting TAMIU's undergraduate students to be academically and professionally successful.

The goal of the program is to increase TAMIU's undergraduate retention and graduation rates by promoting community and belonging through student success coaching and mentorship. In the program students have access to a:

  • Mentor
  • Student Success Coach
  • Study Space
  • Workshops
  • Opportunities to earn prizes, a scholarship, and a nomination to a conference

All students are welcome to join the program.

Attend 1 Student Success Goal Planning Meeting this Spring Level 1: 5 Hours Level 2: 10 Hours Level 3: 25 Hours
$25 Dusty Dollars and a School Supply Bag Proyecto Amigo T-Shirt Proyecto Amigo Hat $ 250 scholarship for the next school term

Students who complete 25 hours or who were actively involved with Proyecto Amigo will also be nominated for a raffle to attend the Unidos Conference in Las Vegas this July

How to Earn Hours

Hours can be earned through April 26 by participating in:

  • Proyecto Amigo Events
    • Student Success Coaching Meetings
    • Study Hours at the Office of Outreach:
    • Proyecto Amigo Workshops
    • Submit once a month email with updates on grades, course progress, concerns, and successes: 3 hours max
    • Informational Interviews (if applicable)
    • Meetings with Mentor (if applicable)
  • TAMIU Resources
    • Schedule a meeting with an Academic Advisor: 1 hour max
    • Tutoring with ACE, TRIO, or TRIO STEM.
    • Attending any ACE Workshop
    • Visiting Faculty Office Hours
    • Scheduling an appointment with TAMIU Career Services or attending an event (ex. Coffee House Wednesday/career fairs)
    • Volunteering with a TAMIU department, student organization, or at an event. 5 hours max

  • Topic: Fall in Love With Your Finances: Budgeting Advice and Tips for College Students
  • Speaker: Daniel Gonzalez, TAMIU Lecturer and Proyecto Amigo Mentor
  • Time: 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
  • Location: Student Center 231
  • Audience: All students are welcome to join
  • Trailblazers: This workshop will count towards the Health and Wellness dimension for Trailblazers
  • Raffle: A meal voucher will be raffled at the end of the workshop
March 26th
  • Topic: Spring Into Your Next Job: Student Campus and Off-Campus Job Search
  • Speakers: TAMIU Office Of Human Resources and Career Services
  • Time: 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
  • Location: Student Center 231
  • Audience: All students are welcome to join
  • Trailblazers: This workshop will count towards the Health and Wellness dimension for Trailblazers
  • Raffle: A meal voucher will be raffled at the end of the workshop

Donah Justice

Program Manager

Donah Justice has worked in education for the past 13 years and has a Bachelor’s in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master's in Counseling from the University of Houston, and a Career Coaching certification. In her past roles, Donah has helped high school students apply to college, worked at a college admission office, and guided college students in applying for internships, jobs, and graduate school. Her favorite part about working with students is helping them recognize their strengths and potential as well as building confidence in themselves and their education journeys.
