Recombinant DNA and Genetic Engineering.
Four semester hours. (FL)
Discussion of current approaches to isolate ("clone") genes, to make gene banks, and to analyze and manipulate gene expression both in vivo and in vitro systems. The use of recombinant DNA techniques is illustrated by critically reading landmark scientific communications. Laboratory work involves one major project, the isolation and preliminary characterization of a chromosomal piece of DNA. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. Lab fee: $30.00.
