AKD inductees with Dr. Erik Olin Wright

AKD seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition. The name is derived from the Greek anthrôpos meaning mankind, katamanthanô, meaning to examine closely or acquire knowledge, and diakoneô, meaning to do service. Taken as a whole, the phrase means "To investigate humanity for the purpose of service."
