Latin American Studies & Foreign Language Program

Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Project

The Latin American Studies and Foreign Language (LASAC) project is designed to improve the Latin American Studies (LAS) and Spanish heritage language program at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU.)

The LASAC committee designed the project with the intent of producing a high quality program. Three measurable objectives were identified to improve the LAS and Spanish-language program:

  • Improve the LAS curriculum to increase graduates' regional expertise by developing new courses and updating library holdings to support new and existing courses.
  • Strengthen advanced Spanish-language training to produce professional bilingual graduates by addressing the special needs of Spanish heritage language speakers.
  • Increase students' awareness of Latin American career opportunities through community outreach activities targeting families, high schools, and the broader community.

This Latin American Studies (LAS) and Spanish language program aims to provide students with the regional expertise and language skills needed for successful careers.
