Learning Community

• You will join a Pre-Noyce Scholar Learning Community taking two or more Calculus classes together with other Pre-Noyce Scholars

TAFE

• You will connect with students from the College of Education (COED) as members of the TAMIU Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) student organization.

AVID

• You will complete AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) training to improve your academic skills (focused notetaking, culture of inquiry, critical reading).

Impact

• You will complete surveys to assess your levels of college readiness and belonging.

Learning Community

• You will remain connected to a Pre-Noyce Scholar Learning Community taking two or more Calculus classes together with other Pre-Noyce Scholars.

TAFE

• You will continue to connect with COED students as members of the TAMIU Texas Association of Future Educators student organization.

Tutoring

• You will complete Texas Tutoring Supports Training and a tutoring experience designed to build your capacity to meet the needs of all students.

Mixed Reality Simulations

• You will complete Mixed Reality Simulations designed to build your capacity to meet the needs of diverse students.

Impact

• You will complete surveys to assess:
• Your levels of college readiness, belonging to the profession and local school districts,
• Your confidence to teach after employment in schools as a tutor,
• Your readiness for admission into the COED.

Learning Community

• You will begin to operate as a learning community within their existing community by enrolling in the same sections of the Professional Core (EDCI3301, EDCI3302) with COED.

TAFE

• You will begin to compete in TAFE competitions.

Test Preparation Program – Sí Se Puede Class

• You will begin engaging with the test preparation program, which requires you to dedicate 12 hours per week completing computer aided test preparation programs (Certify Teacher and 240 Tutoring) with established track records of student success.

Mid-Program Field Experiences

• You will complete coursework designed to ‘introduce and prepare’ you to apply selected High Leverage Practices (Eliciting and Interpreting Student Thinking; Providing Feedback to Students; Communicating with Families) in local school districts.
• You will spend additional time in Mixed Reality Simulations so you can ‘enact the practice and analyze your efforts’ at improving outcomes for all students, including those with disabilities and/or students who are English Language Learners (EDCI 3302)
• You will complete Texas Lesson Study (TXLS) training designed to equip you with the skills to work collaboratively to develop, teach, and assess research-based lessons

Impact

• You will complete surveys to assess your levels of:
  • Belonging within-
    • COED
    • the School District
• Confidence levels to promote success for all
• Career readiness, specifically passing the certification exam for residency

Learning Community

• You will continue to operate as a learning community within their existing community by enrolling in the same sections of the Professional Core (EDCI 3315, EDCI 4310, EDCI 4693, EDSE 4350) with College of Education Faculty

TAFE

• You will continue to compete in TAFE competitions.

End of Program Experiences

• You will engage in a final year-long High Impact Practice, specifically a teacher residency
• You will be placed at a local school site with a high potential for employment.

• You will complete Mixed Reality Simulations designed to build your capacity to meet the needs of diverse students.

Impact

• You will complete surveys to assess:
  • belonging within
    • the School District
    • the School Campus
• Career readiness, specifically within the context of the campus.

First Year Teaching

• Zero-Credit Graduate Course
  • You will participate will a structured career readiness forum
  • You will convene monthly to:
    1. Address diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM teaching and learning, including retention/persistence concerns
    2. Explore strategies to empower you to create systemic change that improves diversity, equity, and inclusion in undergraduate STEM teacher education
    3. Focus on ensuring your K-12 STEM teaching reflects modern pedagogical teaching practices
    4. Access additional support to prepare and complete supplemental certification exams required for ongoing employment and/or career advancement
