The Texas A&M International University College of Arts and Humanities will host a free lecture featuring guest speaker Dr. Norman Sherry Monday, November 6, at 8:00 p.m. in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Great Room (319). The lecture will be preceded by a free one-hour concert by the Trevino Magnet School Quartet.

The concert and lecture are part of a week-long celebration of the Dedication of Phase One of TAMIU's new campus and the University's 25th Anniversary.

Dr. Sherry's November 6 lecture "The Wild and Amazing Adventures of a Literary Detective: The Lives of Carroll, the Bronte Sisters and Greene," will recount his sometimes perilous adventures researching the lives of literary giants.

Having written extensively about Joseph Conrad, the Bronte sisters and other literary figures, Dr. Sherry has perfected a method of literary research which entails not only tracking down written sources, but also tangible evidence of a given person's passage through life. He almost literally walks in the footprints of his subjects, traveling to those familiar haunts which served them as fictional locales, finding and interviewing family members and associates as well as the actual models upon which an author based his or her characters. In this way, Dr. Sherry offers a more informed portrait than could be created by merely relying upon library resources.

Dr. Sherry's most recent notoriety has come from his riveting biographies about author and screenwriter Graham Greene.

He is the Mitchell Distinguished Professor of Literature at Trinity University in San Antonio.

For more information on Dr. Sherry's lecture Nov. 6, call the TAMIU College of Arts and Humanities at 326-2460.

TAMIU office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
