The Texas A&M International University AIDS Coalition, a new student-led project designed to educate the community on AIDS and HIV, is seeking volunteers to help organize the fledging project.

University students, faculty, and staff, and members of the community are invited to join the new organization.

Volunteers will meet monthly to plan AIDS awareness activities, said AIDS Coalition organizer Imtiaz Haiyoom, a graduate student at TAMIU.

Planned activities, to be held both on and off the University campus, include distributing literature at key functions, manning information booths during special events, and establishing a lecture series.

"Our emphasis will be to educate and to increase the level of AIDS awareness," said Haiyoom.

Special activities for World AIDS Day December 1 are also being planned.

The TAMIU AIDS Coalition will work with the Family Planning Center, the Health Department, local AIDS experts, and the University's Student Health Services department.

The TAMIU Student Health Services recently hosted a lecture on AIDS and offered free HIV testing for TAMIU students and staff.

For more information on the TAMIU AIDS Coalition, contact Haiyoom at 326-2550 or TAMIU Psychology Professors Dr. Todd Russell, 326-2622, or Dr. Yoko Sugihara at 326-2611.

TAMIU office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
