TAMIU Alum Completes BP Training Academy

A Texas A&M; International University alumnus has graduated from the Border Patrol Training Academy in Artesia, New Mexico.

Rudy Martinez, a 1995 graduate of Texas A&M; International University, completed the rigorous 18-week course recently. He will be assigned to duty in the Laredo sector.

Martinez holds a BS degree from the University and is a member of the Texas National Guard. Married to the former Frances Berrones of Laredo, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arturo Martinez of Laredo. He is a 1987 graduate of J. W. Nixon High School.

Martinez' training at the Border Patrol Academy includes intensive training in Spanish, immigration law, weapons, tactics and driving rough terrain vehicles.

The US Border Patrol is a branch of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). The Border Patrol's primary responsibilities are to interdict and apprehend illegal migrants and narcotics coming into the U.S.

The Service has jurisdiction throughout the country, but operates primarily along the borders between US ports of entry with Canada and Mexico.
