The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) Chancellor Barry B. Thompson, has named a Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Presidential Search Committee.

Interim President Jose Garcia said the Search Committee reflects both the University community and the community at large.

"We have ensured that the search committee is representative of the University community and the community at large that we serve. We appreciate the effort and commitment this Committee is making in the process of selecting the fourth President of Texas A&M International University, " Garcia said.

Garcia said the 15-member committee's search will be assisted by a professional recruiting firm, Sandhurst and Associates of Dallas.

"Sandhurst and Associates is one of the country's most reputable firms in academic executive searches. Their services have been contracted by The Texas A&M University System," he explained.

Garcia said the Committee's charge is to interview select candidates and narrow the field down to the three most qualified applicants.

"The three final candidates selected by the Search Committee will be forwarded to TAMUS Chancellor Thompson who will recommend a candidate to the TAMUS Board of Regents. The Regents will render the final decision," he explained.

The Search Committee is chaired by Dr. Khosrow Fatemi, Dean of the College of Business Administration.

Dr. Fatemi said the group has already begun meeting and is working aggressively to forward its recommendations to Chancellor Thompson later this Spring Semester.

"This is a dynamic and inclusive process. We are looking forward to meeting with candidates and offering our recommendations to TAMUS Chancellor Thompson," he said.
