TAMIU Holds Drug, Alcohol Awareness Program Mar. 4 - 6

Texas A&M International University will host a three-day Drug and Alcohol Awareness Program at its north Laredo campus March 4 - 6.

The Awareness Program is designed to remind students to drink responsibly during Spring Break, says event coordinator Gabriela Mendoza, Associate Director of the Office of Student Development.

The Awareness Program is being sponsored by the University"s Human Resources, Student Development, and Student Health Services offices.

On Monday, March 4, the TAMIU Sociology/Psychology Club will sell non-alcoholic drinks from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the south entrance of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building. US Customs representatives will also distribute free literature on drug and alcohol awareness from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Texas Department of Transportation will distribute free alcohol awareness literature at the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building south entrance, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 5.

Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Sueanne Lineberger will distribute free literature at the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building south entrance from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6.

Also scheduled for March 6 is a free presentation entitled "The Knock--Dangers of Drinking and Driving" at 12:00 noon and again at 1:00 p.m. in Bullock Hall Room 104. Special guest speaker will be Charlie Ramirez of the Texas Department of Public Safety--Corpus Christi.

A wrecked car, courtesy of Cabello Wrecker, will be displayed at the Killam Building south entrance throughout the three-day Drug and Alcohol Awareness Program to remind students of the dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

"We hope these Drug and Alcohol Awareness activities encourage students to stay sober and party safely", said Mendoza.
