Members of the Faculty of Texas A&M International University will have an opportunity to tour maquiladora operations in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico courtesy of the City of Laredo and the Laredo Development Foundation Friday, March 29 from 1-4:30 p.m.

Dr. Janet K. Black, Vice President for Advancement and External Affairs at TAMIU, said the tour will afford members of the University's growing faculty with additional insight into the border and its industry.

"We truly welcome this opportunity provided by the City and the LDF. It provides our faculty, especially recent arrivals, with important information about our twin cities and their unique business environment. As in other initiatives, the LDF and the City have been most supportive of the University," she said.

A bus will meet faculty members Friday at 1 p.m. at the TAMIU campus in northeast Laredo and continue on to Nuevo Laredo.

Robert Talton, LAMOSA/Ford Manager, will provide a tour of that plant operation which specializes in catalytic converters, stabilizer bars, coils, wheels, and radiator supports.

Following will be a visit with Mark Pease, Manager of Barry de Mexico, which specializes in house slippers.

At 4 p.m., the group will return to Laredo and tour the city's industrial parks prior to returning to the TAMIU campus.
