Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will offer a special 14-week course on the Gateway City that is designed to acquaint newcomers and long-time residents to the rich confluence of histories and cultures here.

"Laredo: Yesterday and Today," will be offered Wednesday evenings, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., beginning March 13. Tours of Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, and interesting villages on both sides of the border will also be scheduled as part of the course.

Tuition is $150 per person. Field trips and special event costs will be nominal, said course organizer and Director of Continuing Education, Oscar J. Munoz.

"The University is delighted to be able to respond to the number of requests we have been receiving for this course, which was first offered some years ago. This is not a conventional course and will actually see students out on the Streets of Laredo, meeting the ghosts of the past," he explained.

Munoz said the course will be taught by local historian Sam Johnson, who has extensive knowledge on Laredo and the border area.

"We think newcomers and persons who have called Laredo home for years will find this course informative, interesting, and entertaining. It is also a great way to welcome people to our bilingual and bicultural community," he added.

For enrollment information on the "Laredo: Yesterday and Today" course offered at TAMIU, call Munoz at the Office of Continuing Education, 326-2133, or visit offices in Killam Library-Administration Building Room 205 East.

TAMIU office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
