Texas A&M International University students have elected new representatives for the TAMIU Student Government Association (SGA).

The elections, which were sponsored by the SGA, were the first University-wide student elections held at TAMIU's new north Laredo campus.

Dr. Stephen Brown, Dean of Student Affairs at TAMIU, called the elections an historic event.

"The elections process was excellent and will continue to improve as TAMIU continues to progress to become a fully developed four-year University," said Dr. Brown.

Over 10% of the student body voted in the SGA Elections.

Newly elected SGA executive officers are: Jerry Garza, President; Scott Roberts, Vice President; Suzie McManus, Secretary; and Kriztella Lopez, Treasurer.

Newly elected senators are: Val Aguilar and Laura Soto, College of Arts and Humanities; Timothy Kennedy and Ricardo Romano, College of Business Administration; Eduardo Gonzalez and Irma Ramirez, College of Science and Technology; Michael Long and Cristobal Sanchez, At-Large representative; and Keith Pearson and Kent Pearson, Graduate At-Large Representative.

New judicials are: Juan Jose Gonzalez, College of Business Administration; Margie Colon, College of Science and Technology; Carlos Ferdin, At-Large Representative; and Carlos Guardiola, Appellate At-Large.

The TAMIU Student Government Association, the official organization of the University's students, participates in the decision-making processes affecting students of the University. The SGA aims to enhance the quality and scope of education at TAMIU, and to promote the general welfare of the student body.
