Six Texas A&M International University student clubs will compete in the TAMIU Student Government Association's Organizational Olympics on Tuesday, April 23 from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. on the South Greens at the University's north Laredo campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

TAMIU student organizations scheduled to compete in the Olympics include the Biology Club, International Business Association, Journalism Club, Physics/Astronomy Club, Soccer Club, and Student Ambassadors. Each of the six participating Clubs will organize one Olympic event and participate in five other events organized by the opposing Clubs.

TAMIU mascot 'Dusty' the Dustdevil will kick-off the first Olympic event. Scheduled events include a Crawfish Race, organized by the Biology Club, Water Balloon Toss, organized by the International Business Association; Newspaper Toss, Journalism Club; 'Trick Spoon' Race, Physics/Astronomy Club; No-Peek Soccer Competition, Soccer Club; and Limbo Contest, Student Ambassadors.

After all events are completed, total scores will be tallied. First Place overall winners will receive $400. Second Place winners will receive $250 and Third Place winners receive $100.

Gabriela Mendoza, Associate Director of the Office of Student Development, said the Olympics are a great way for participating Clubs to introduce themselves to more students, attract new members, and win a cash prize. "The weather should be wonderful and there is plenty of cool shade along the Greens so I encourage TAMIU students and community members to spend the afternoon enjoying the games," said Mendoza.

Free pizza will be provided for Olympic spectators and supporters while supplies last.

After the Olympics, 'Comedy Sportz' an 8-member Houston-based improvisational troupe, will perform in front of Building C from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Olympics and Comedy Sportz performance are sponsored by the TAMIU Student Government Association.
